KPV

Lysine-Proline-Valine tripeptide (alpha-MSH 11-13)

KPV is the C-terminal tripeptide (Lysine-Proline-Valine) of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). Most of the anti-inflammatory activity of the full alpha-MSH molecule appears to be conserved in this 3-amino-acid fragment, making KPV a research tool for studying melanocortin anti-inflammatory pathways without the pigmentation effects of the full peptide.

What the molecule is

  • · Three-amino-acid sequence: Lysine-Proline-Valine.
  • · Derived from the C-terminus of alpha-MSH (residues 11-13 of the 13-residue parent peptide).
  • · Retains anti-inflammatory activity of the parent alpha-MSH in preclinical models without the melanocortin-1 receptor pigmentation effects.
  • · Researched both for systemic administration and for topical and oral routes.

What the literature shows

The literature base is smaller than BPC-157 or TB-500. Most published work originates from a handful of research groups and uses rodent models. No phase II or phase III human RCT data is published.

UK regulatory status

  • · Not a controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
  • · Not scheduled under the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016.
  • · No UK marketing authorisation as a medicine.
  • · Sold legally as a research chemical when marketed without therapeutic claims.
