How to choose a UK GLP-1 clinic in 2026

UK GLP-1 weight-loss clinics vary significantly in how they are regulated, how prescriptions are issued, what aftercare is included, and what the total monthly cost adds up to. This editorial checklist covers seven criteria worth verifying before committing to any clinic. PeptideClear does not prescribe, dispense, or recommend a specific medication or clinic for a specific person. This is editorial commentary on what to look for.
7-point clinic checklist
- 1
GPhC pharmacy registration
Any UK clinic that dispenses prescription medication must hold a General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) registration. The registration number should be visible on the website, ideally in the footer or the terms. You can verify it directly at the GPhC public register. A clinic operating without a visible GPhC number is a red flag.
- 2
GMC prescriber registration
GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide and tirzepatide are prescription-only medicines (POMs). The prescribing clinician must be registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) or the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as an independent prescriber. Look for a named clinician with a verifiable registration number. Clinics that use anonymous "our team of doctors" phrasing without naming a responsible prescriber offer less transparency than those that do.
- 3
Consultation type: text, video, or video with bloods
UK clinics use three main consultation models. Text-only (asynchronous questionnaire reviewed by a prescriber remotely) is the most common low-cost model. Video consultation adds a synchronous clinical conversation. Video with bloods adds baseline blood panel requirements before prescribing. The more rigorous the initial assessment, the more likely an underlying contraindication will be caught. Check which model is used for the initial prescription and for any dose escalation reviews.
- 4
Refund policy and cooling-off period
Understand what happens if you change your mind or if medication is not suitable. UK consumer regulations give a statutory 14-day cooling-off period on distance-sold goods and services, but clinics sometimes argue that a bespoke prescription service falls outside standard returns rules. Check the clinic's refund terms specifically. Some clinics offer a partial refund on unopened medication; others do not refund once a prescription has been issued. Clarify this before signing up.
- 5
Aftercare schedule and dietitian access
GLP-1 medication works best alongside lifestyle support. Check whether the clinic includes regular check-ins (monthly, bi-monthly, or only when you request one), whether a dietitian or health coach is included in the fee or charged separately, and what the escalation path is if you experience side effects. High-touch clinics typically include a named coach and a structured aftercare programme. Lower-cost pharmacy routes typically do not.
- 6
Transparent monthly pricing without hidden fees
UK GLP-1 clinic pricing varies from approximately £159 to £349 per month in 2026 for the first (maintenance) dose tier, rising on escalation. Watch for activation fees, consultation fees charged separately, delivery fees per shipment, and app subscription costs. The headline "from £X per month" figure can exclude several of these. Ask for the full all-in monthly cost at the starting dose and at the maintenance dose before committing.
- 7
Independent UK Trustpilot reviews
On-site testimonials are selected by the clinic and have limited evidential value. Independent review platforms, particularly UK Trustpilot, are harder to curate and give a more representative picture of real patient experience: delivery reliability, customer service response time, and the quality of aftercare. Check the volume of reviews (low-count profiles are statistically unreliable), the recency (recent negative reviews matter more than old positive ones), and whether the clinic replies to negative feedback constructively.
Editorial note
PeptideClear is a comparison and information service. We do not prescribe, dispense, or recommend a specific medication or clinic for any individual. The checklist above is editorial commentary on publicly verifiable criteria. For prescription medicine, the decision rests with your prescriber. If you have questions about your health or suitability for GLP-1 medication, speak to a GMC-registered clinician.
