[0:00] What is MOTS-c?
[0:08] MOTS-c is a 16 amino acid peptide encoded inside mitochondrial DNA. It was first characterised in 2015 by the Pinchas Cohen group at the University of Southern California. It is one of a small family of mitochondrially encoded peptides.
[0:16] The published literature is mostly preclinical. Rodent studies report effects on insulin sensitivity, glucose metabolism, and exercise capacity. Some early human observational work measures circulating MOTS-c levels across age and metabolic status. Published human randomised controlled trials remain limited.
[0:25] In the UK, MOTS-c is not a controlled drug. It is not scheduled under the Psychoactive Substances Act. It holds no UK marketing authorisation as a medicine. It is sold lawfully as a research chemical, research use only.
