Kisspeptin
Kisspeptin-54, Kisspeptin-10
Kisspeptin is a 54-amino-acid peptide (Kisspeptin-54) that is the primary regulator of GnRH (Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone) release from the hypothalamus. It sits upstream of the entire hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal reproductive axis. A 10-amino-acid C-terminal fragment (Kisspeptin-10) retains biological activity. Substantial clinical-trial activity is ongoing in fertility (particularly in vitro fertilisation), Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder, and reproductive endocrinology. UK clinical-research lead at Imperial College London (Waljit Dhillo lab).
What the molecule is
- · 54-amino-acid peptide encoded by the KISS1 gene.
- · Acts on the KISS1R receptor in hypothalamic neurons.
- · Stimulates GnRH neuron firing, which drives downstream LH and FSH release from the pituitary.
- · Primary regulator of the reproductive endocrine axis in humans and mammals.
What the literature shows
- · Clinical trial work in in vitro fertilisation triggering by Imperial College London (Dhillo lab).
- · Clinical work in male and female HSDD published by the same group.
- · Mechanism work on the role of KISS1 in puberty timing.
- · Trial activity in hypothalamic amenorrhoea.
UK regulatory status
- · Not a controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
- · Not scheduled under the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016.
- · No UK marketing authorisation as a medicine. Clinical research only.
- · UK availability is limited to clinical trial enrolment when a trial is open.
- · Research-use-only framing required for any non-trial UK sale.
